A slew of new altcoin projects built on Ethereum layer-2 Arbitrum are quietly growing under the radar, according to the crypto finance platform Bankless. In a new note to subscribers, Bankless says the Arbitrum ecosystem is heating up after a recent network upgrade helped to increase its throughput and lower transaction fees.

Crypto exchanges are vowing to keep trading open and unaffected during Ethereum's (ETH) transition to proof-of-stake (PoS), despite deposits and withdrawals of ETH and ERC-20 tokens being halted. 

What happened: On Monday a total of 908.15 Ether (CRYPTO: ETH) worth $1,512,991, based on the current value of Ethereum at time of publication ($1,666.02), was burned from Ethereum transactions. Burning is when a coin or token is sent to an unusable wallet to remove it from circulation.

The much-anticipated transition to Ethereum 2.0 is set to start on the Ethereum blockchain. The shift from a proof-of-work (PoW) base to a proof-of-stake (PoS) base is often referred to as the so-called "merge" — slated to take place on Sept.

The final stage before the Ethereum Merge was successfully completed at 7:35 am ET. The Bellatrix hard fork, the last crucial upgrade before Ethereum transitions from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS), has now been activated.

Ethereum's landmark Merge event is coming — possibly even sooner than expected. According to a recent tweet by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, the upgrade will now be fully executed sometime around September 13-15.

Bankrupt hedge fund Three Arrows Capital on Tuesday removed nearly 20,945 stETH worth nearly $33.76 million from Curve ETH liquidity pool. Three Arrows have also withdrawn 203 WBTC, 4,051,368 USDT, and 2462 WETH from Curve.

Ethereum price analysis is bearish today as we have seen a higher local high set at $1,680 after a strong rally overnight. However, buying pressure has diminished over the last hours, likely leading ETH/USD to retrace and set another higher low over the next days.
