Optimism to sell $156m in OP tokens via private sale

Level-2 blockchain Optimism is set to sell 116 million of its OP tokens to seven private buyers. According to a recent post, the project team will sell tokens to unknown buyers to manage the treasury.

Optimism, a leading Layer 2 network on Ethereum, has completed the direct distribution of unclaimed tokens from its first airdrop, amounting to an equivalent of $66.7 million. The airdrop initially commenced on June 1, 2022, and had successfully distributed 166 million of the nearly 215 million tokens reserved for the airdrop.

In a strategic move to bolster its market presence, USD Coin (USDC) has launched natively on both the Base and Optimism networks. The announcement came on September 5, marking a significant milestone for Circle, the company behind USDC, seeking to regain market share lost to competitors like Tether (USDT).

Circle launches native USDC on OP Mainnet, replacing Ethereum bridged liquidity. Collaborating with Optimism, it will be available on Coinbase's Base, Solana, Ethereum, and Mercado Pago.

The decentralized social media protocol is migrating to OP Mainnet according to a post by Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero today August 23. Romero has also noted that many of Farcaster's users and developers “are building on the OP Stack across OP Mainnet, Base & Zora.

Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 solution, aims to decentralize and align with the Superchain vision by transitioning from Stage 0 to Stage 2 L2, bolstering OP Stack's scalability, reliability, and decentralization. It plans to allocate sequencing revenue to the Optimism Collective.

Ethereum layer 2 network Optimism (OP) has maintained its market recovery in the last few days, recording a 5.57% gain over the last 24 hours, based on data from CoinMarketCap. Since hitting the $1.31 price mark, Optimism has embarked on an upward curve, looking set to return to the high price levels seen at the start of August.

Although the crypto market on the whole witnessed some turbulence, the same couldn't be said about OP tokens. This was because OP emerged as a standout performer, gaining 42% in the past month.

Layer-2 blockchain Optimism is set to unlock $36 million worth of tokens on Sunday, and the anticipated increase in supply spurred a 3.5% slump in the blockchain's native token (OP) on Tuesday.

With this move, Worldcoin aims to prepare for its future launch, taking advantage of the scalability features that its deployment on Optimism brings, including migrating user accounts and bringing Uniswap support to the World App.
