North Korean Hacker Attempts To Phish Euler Finance Exploiter Via Encrypted Message

The Euler Finance exploiter, which held $200 million in stolen funds in its wallet, received an on-chain note on Tuesday from a wallet address linked with the Ronin Bridge attackers, known as the North Korean hacker group Lazarus.

As the industry reels from the shock of Eular Finance's $197 million hack, new on-chain data reveals a transaction to a red-flagged North Korean address that threatens to open a can of worms.

The attacker used a multichain bridge to transfer funds from the BNB Chain to Ethereum and moved the stolen funds into Tornado Cash before returning the funds.

The recent Euler Finance exploit is the largest attack in the crypto space in 2023. The incident occurred through a flash loan attack that led to the loss of almost $200 million in crypto assets.

The hacker who drained $197 million from Euler Finance in the biggest DeFi hack of 2023 so far reportedly returned around $5.4 million in Ether to the company. The funds were sent in three transactions from the hacker's address to Euler Finance's deployer address, but it remains to be seen if the hacker will return the rest of the stolen funds.

DeFi suffered its biggest attack this year with a flash loan attack on crypto lending platform Euler Finance and the hackers are belived to be same that exploited a BSC based protocol in February.

Euler Fianance protocol was attacked almost a week ago, which resulted in a loss of more than $180 million. And though the attacker behind the scheme is yet to be certainly identified, popular on-chain analyst Lookonchain has recently reported data hinting at who could be behind the hack.
